The Truths in Franchising by Sofia Leong Abdullah

After the first and second events, BizPartner organized its third business collaboration event on 30th September 2014. As per before, the organizer invited a main speaker to share a topic, and a few participants to share about themselves.

6 members kicked off the BizPartner.MY – The Truths in Franchising session by introducing about their businesses for 5 minutes each. The presenters included self-employed, salespeople, restaurateur and speaker.

After the half-hour peer sharing, the main speaker came in to deliver her topic in the BizPartner.MY event. She was none other than Sofia Leong Abdullah, renown consultant, trainer and author in franchising in Malaysia.

Having worked with a number of companies and consulted many in the franchising industry, Sofia was about to launch her new book Sofia Leong Abdullah’s Guide to Franchising to contribute to the know-how of setting up and running a franchise in Malaysia.

In the 30-minute sharing session, Sofia addressed some issues on franchising, shared some challenges not included in her book, and took on questions from the attentive crowd listening to her talk.

Precise Affirmation, Pitching & Impromptu Speeches

Web hosting provider BizPartner.MY started its first business collaboration event in July and adopted the Pitch ‘n’ Win event model. It was well received and about 30 clients and friends turned up for the inaugural event.

The second event called BizPartner.MY – Get Precisely What You Want, BizPartner was held on 27th August 2014. This time it still consisted of a half-hour talk plus 5-minute pitching by 6 presenters. However, a new segment of impromptu speeches was added.

Abd Azharee Abdul Wahid was invited as the main speaker this time. He shared on the power of Precise Affirmation to get precisely what you want in life. He derived the topic from Precise Doa (Precise Prayer) from Islamic point of view. Azharee shared many such experiences in his life.

After the sharing, Azharee was invited to enlighten the audience on his upcoming Akademi Usahawan Mikro to help educate micro-entrepreneurs in Malaysia. His partner Lokman Hakim who attended together also shared a little about himself and his business.

Then, 6 participants took the stage and shared about their ideas and businesses for 5 minutes each. They came from the F&B, direct marketing, education and will writing industries. There were 2 also who came all the way from Penang!

The audience were asked to vote for the best presenters by giving their name cards to the presenters they want to vote for. Gan Bee Ching from the education industry received more than half of the votes for her interesting sharing on education for entrepreneurs.

A new segment was introduced to allow other event participants to speak up about themselves from a given topic. 5 members were asked to speak on various topics such as “What do you see yourself in 10 years?” and “The power of networking”.

The impromptu speeches aimed to experiment whether this new segment was welcome or not. While it looked good and fun in the event, the result was not conclusive as it was late in the night and many didn’t expect to have the additional speeches.

The event closed after more than 2 hours but many participants still lingered around to connect and talk to one another. It was one good event with a good crowd and some validated learning acquired.

New Collaboration Platform – BizPartner.MY

Web hosting provider BizPartner is changing its business model from just a web hosting company to one that provides into a business collaboration platform where its clients and friends in business can collaborate and co-create business together.

Capitalizing on its 700 members in the mailing list, plus the Pitch ‘n’ Win platform, BizPartner organized its first collaboration event on 24th July 2014 titled BizPartner.MY – How to Start Business From Nothing?

The event was held in SWAG Bar & Grill restaurant in PJ Palms Sports Centre. About 30 people participated in the event. Yeap Eu Juan, the General Manager of PJ Palms Sports Centre, was the main speaker, followed by 6 presenters for 5 minutes each.

The event started with the host Ricky Soo explaining about the event. He also introduced the restaurant and got the owner Sudip Thiagi to speak to the crowd on the restaurant, its food and its story.

Yeap was then invited on stage and he spoke for 30 minutes on his journey and experience as entrepreneur. He shared how he started his venture from nothing and became a swimming coach now and taking care of the sports centre.

After the his speech, the 6 presenters came up on stage one by one to introduce themselves and the collaboration opportunities they offer to the crowd. Each of them spoke for 5 minutes.

A round of voting was done to select the best presenter out of the six. Alvin Lai was voted for his interesting sharing. He was invited to speak in the next event as main speaker if he wished to.

The experimental event proved to be successful mainly because of the new concept. Instead of doing some networking, participants were encouraged to do 3 C’s together – Connect, Collaborate and Co-Create.

BizPartner.MY aspires to be one main collaborative platform not only for its clients, but also for business partners, friends and the public as well. All these for free!
